Dawn says that joining WIHS felt like coming home. She is enthusiastic about supporting students and thinking of creative ways to engage students and families.

She has over 18 years of experience in education, holding a variety of teaching and administrator roles with Lummi Nation School and most recently working as the Director of Federal and Special Programs for the Blaine School District. Dawn is passionate about providing real world and place-based learning that inspires students and staff to become advocates for themselves, their future, and their community.

She is honored to work with an amazing team of educators at WIHS to continue honoring the First People’s Principles of Learning. In her spare time Dawn enjoys traveling, baking, and enjoying time with her husband and two children.

Mr. Zamora is incredibly passionate about helping students find a path for life after high school. He completed his Bachelor’s in English at Cal State Fullerton before earning a Master’s in Administration Education from Concordia University Irvine.

Mr. Zamora spent seven years as a para-educator and eleven years teaching various subjects at the high school level, including English, Graphic Design, Video Production, Yearbook, and Music Technology.

Mr. Z likes taking nature walks, photography, media arts, and trying new restaurants in his free time. His favorite thing about WIHS is the potential.

Jen volunteered in-classroom at WIHS during the founding school year and fell in love with the school’s culture of inclusivity and radically accessible teaching practices.

She recently graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in English Education, and is continuing her schooling at the Woodring College of Education. Jen is passionate about community-oriented, inclusive teaching that provides students with the skills they will need in order to navigate our ever-changing world.

In her free time, Jen writes poetry, paints, dances, and walks her miniature dachshund around Whatcom Falls. Jen’s favorite part of WIHS is the strong community of care and compassion the school has curated.

Cypress is passionate about creating and supporting a space where everyone feels heard, appreciated, and valued for who they are and what only they can contribute. They look forward to experiencing that genuine joy every single day they are a part of the WIHS community!

Cypress attended Westminster College in Fulton, MO for their undergraduate degree in History and then went on to the University of Missouri in St. Louis to earn my graduate degree in History and Museum Studies.

From 2016 to 2020, Cypress worked in the Tohoku region of Japan as part of the JET Program. They taught English as a Foreign Language and as a Second Language to thousands of high school students in the northern region of Fukushima Prefecture, which is where they became fluent in Japanese.

Cypress also worked as a manga and Japanese novel editor and have edited multiple video games for Steam and the Nintendo Switch.

When they’re not at work, Cypress likes to crochet, weave, read, play video games, and do nature photography. They crochet everyday and have made everything from blankets to hats, and are currently working on making a crochet clothing wardrobe.

Cypress’ favorite thing about WIHS is the inclusiveness: everyone, from the students to the staff, are thoughtful, caring, and respect each other's personhood and individuality. Cypress feels like the future is bright with so many wonderful people like everyone here.
